Objective humanitarianism
The separation of the “job” one must perform while working
in country and the people, especially the children, and falling in love with it
all is profoundly difficult. There is a term “objective humanitarianism” that summaries
one of the most difficult parts of service work in country.
It is separating oneself from the poverty, the needs and the
desire to bring every child and young person, you know is subject of a life of servitude or substance existence, back to the States. Leading a young team in country this concept has been one of the
most difficult lessons I had to teach . . . and only come with time and experience.
Let it be know that my “hard objective humanitarian” heart melts just like
everyone else’s . . .
